Dehradun, 21st June: President Droupadi Murmu led a mass yoga demonstration at the Uttarakhand State Police Line Maidan in Dehradun on Saturday to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation as people gathered in large numbers to perform the Common Yoga Protocol alongside the President.

Addressing the gathering after the session, President Murmu extended greetings to yoga practitioners worldwide. She said that since its recognition in 2015, Yoga has evolved into a shared heritage of humanity and serves as a powerful symbol of India’s soft power.

“Yoga is not just a physical exercise; it is an art of living a healthy and balanced life,” she said, underlining its holistic benefits for the body, mind, and personality. “A healthy person contributes to a healthy family, a healthy family to a healthy society, and a healthy society to a healthy nation.”

Explaining the deeper meaning of the word “Yoga”, the President noted, “Yoga means ‘to connect’—it connects the body, mind, and soul. It also has the power to unite people, communities, and nations.”

She emphasised the preventive health benefits of Yoga and urged people to adopt it as a daily practice. “Prevention is better than cure, and yoga plays a vital role in preventive healthcare,” she said, encouraging citizens to inspire others to embrace yoga as a way of life.

President Murmu’s participation comes amid nationwide and global celebrations, reinforcing India’s leadership in promoting holistic wellness through yoga.
