X Takes Firm Action: Bans Over 2 Lakh Accounts in India for Policy Violations

X Corp, led by Elon Musk, has made a significant move in India by banning a total of 212,627 accounts in just one month. This crackdown targeted content that promoted child exploitation and non-consensual activities.

Additionally, the platform removed 1,235 accounts for promoting terrorism in the country.

X stated that it has put in place various measures to address issues related to child exploitation and terrorism.

In its monthly report, X revealed that it received 5,158 complaints from Indian users during the same period through its grievance redressal mechanisms.

The majority of complaints from India were related to ban evasion (3,074), followed by sensitive adult content (953), hateful conduct (412), and abuse/harassment (359).

Furthermore, X handled 86 grievances regarding account suspensions.

After reviewing the details of the situations, we reversed 7 of these account suspensions. The rest of the reported accounts remain suspended, the company stated.

During this reporting period, we also received 29 inquiries about general account-related questions, X added.
