New Delhi, 11th Nov: World leaders and embassies have expressed grief and concern following a deadly explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort on Monday evening that claimed nine lives and left at least 20 others injured. The car blast occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station around 6:52 pm, shattering the evening calm and setting several vehicles ablaze.
The US Embassy in India extended condolences, stating, “Our hearts are with those affected by the terrible explosion in New Delhi. We continue to closely monitor the situation.” The embassy also issued a security alert, advising American citizens to “avoid areas surrounding the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk” and to remain cautious in crowded spaces.
The UK High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, expressed sorrow over the tragedy, writing, “My thoughts are with all those affected by the explosion near the Red Fort in New Delhi,” and urged British nationals to follow local advisories.
Condolences also came from France, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Iran, Morocco, and Australia, whose envoys conveyed solidarity with India and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. “Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people and government of India,” the Sri Lankan mission posted on X.
Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have been invoked and that multiple agencies are investigating possible terror links. “We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation,” he said, assuring the public of transparency.
Following the explosion, Delhi Police and fire services reported several vehicles damaged near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. The blast came just hours after the recovery of over 3,000 kg of explosives in Haryana’s Faridabad by Jammu and Kashmir Police — a development that has raised concerns about a coordinated plot.
Security has been tightened across the capital, including Indira Gandhi International Airport, metro stations, and sensitive government buildings. Helpline numbers have been issued by hospitals and police for victims and families.
The incident marks one of Delhi’s most serious security breaches in recent years, prompting the Centre and law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert.
