Why Modi Waited for Almost 10 Years, Reason Perhaps 2024 Polls: Sibal on Women’s Reservation Bill

New Delhi, 19th Sept. Kapil Sibal, a Rajya Sabha MP, attacked the government on Tuesday amid speculation that the Women’s Reservation Bill will be introduced in Parliament, questioning why Prime Minister Narendra Modi waited almost ten years for it and claiming that the reason is likely the 2024 general elections.

Minister of State Prahlad Singh Patel announced on social networking platform X on Monday that the Cabinet had approved the bill, but he quickly deleted the post.

While there was no official word on what happened during the Cabinet meeting on Monday evening, speculation was strong that it adopted the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Sibal stated in a post on X, “Women’s Reservation Bill: Wonder why Modi ji, if introduced, waited for almost 10 years when almost all political parties are in support? 2024 is perhaps the reason.”

“But if the government does not provide quota for OBC women, BJP may also lose UP in 2024! Think about it!” he said.

Sibal, a Union minister under the UPA 1 and 2 governments, left the Congress in May last year and was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent with the backing of the Samajwadi Party.
