New Delhi, 9th Dec: Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Tuesday chaired the Quarterly Review Meeting of the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) in New Delhi, bringing together stakeholders from industry, telecom operators, academia, and research institutions. The Alliance aims to advance indigenous development of 6G technologies and strengthen India’s position as a global leader in next-generation communications.

Seven specialised Working Groups presented their progress and coordination frameworks. These groups cover spectrum, device technologies, components and sensors, manufacturing ecosystems, core technologies, applications, sustainability, international engagement and use cases—forming the mission’s strategic pillars.

India’s Growing Confidence on the Global Stage
Scindia highlighted India’s technological rise, referencing milestones such as landing a spacecraft on the Moon’s South Pole. He said India must approach 6G with conviction, noting that the country now stands among a select few with such advanced capabilities.

Calling India the voice of the world’s second-largest telecom market and gateway to 70 percent of global growth markets, Scindia said: “Why follow global norms? The world should adopt Indian standards.”

Strategic Direction for 6G
The Minister outlined phase-wise goals for the Bharat 6G Mission, prioritised research areas, independent evaluations and strict quarterly reviews. He emphasised end-to-end value chain development and breaking complex technological challenges into executable steps.

He said India will engage with global standards bodies such as 3GPP and ITU while ensuring Indian innovations achieve global traction.

Spectrum and Devices: Critical Pillars
Scindia underscored the importance of a long-term spectrum strategy, noting that India has already undertaken major refarming efforts. On devices, he called for a holistic understanding of the value chain and stressed affordability and scale suited to India’s unique market.

Collaboration as India’s Strength
Calling for deeper partnerships among industry, startups and academia, Scindia said India must develop 6G use cases rooted in its own needs while also expanding global outreach.

Toward a Self-Reliant 6G Ecosystem
He emphasised monthly cross-group coordination to ensure smoother execution and faster approvals.

Reiterating India’s ambition, Scindia said the country’s 6G journey must originate from Indian innovation and serve global communities. With a rapidly growing ecosystem of researchers and industry partners, India is well-positioned to shape the future of digital connectivity.
