Patna, 26th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, transferring ₹10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women in the state.
Calling the scheme a “milestone for the women and daughters of Bihar,” Modi said every beneficiary will receive initial support of ₹10,000, with potential funding up to ₹2 lakh for successful enterprises. He noted that women can open small businesses or pursue livestock ventures with training provided.
Highlighting the Centre’s Lakhpati Didi campaign, Modi said the new programme will accelerate the goal of creating three crore women earning over ₹1 lakh annually, adding that Bihar could soon lead the country in such “Lakhpati Didis.”
The Prime Minister stressed that women-focused policies benefit all sections of society, citing examples like Ujjwala Yojana for clean cooking fuel, free ration under PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, and property registration in women’s names under PM Awas Yojana. He pointed to health drives such as Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar, which has set up 4.25 lakh camps screening women for anaemia, diabetes, blood pressure and cancer.
PM Modi credited the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile framework for enabling direct benefit transfers and said women’s empowerment has reduced poverty and improved household health. He contrasted today’s progress with what he called the “lantern era” of past Bihar governments marked by lawlessness and poor infrastructure.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh joined the launch. Modi concluded, “When a woman progresses, the entire society moves forward.”
