WASHINGTON – White House on Friday slammed the Nobel Committee after the Trump administration was rejected for the Nobel Peace Prize, which was declared the same day to Venezuela opposition leader and activist who won the Noblel.

The administration alleged the selection mirrored political bias rather than a genuine adherence to global peace.

Assistant to the President & White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung said in a post on X “Once again, the Nobel Committee has proved they place politics over peace,”.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Venezuelan politician and opposition leader María Corina Machado Parisca.

She is known for her fearless stand against authoritarian rule in Venezuela, Machado has spent more than two decades advocating for democracy in her troubled nation.

The selection marks a landmark moment in history both for Venezuela, where political repression and economic collapse have prevailed recent decades, and for Latin America as a whole, where the struggle for democracy continues to face strong challenges.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Machado’s “tireless fight for peace in Venezuela and her dedication to democratic principles despite personal risks.”

María Corina Machado, born in 1967, is a trained industrial engineer and one of Venezuela’s most outspoken political figures.

She began her political journey as a critic of the late President Hugo Chávez and his socialist government, which she accused of destroying Venezuela’s economy and silencing dissent.

Machado has served as an elected member of the National Assembly of Venezuela from 2011 to 2014.

She emerged as a leading voice of resistance in Venezuela for the opponents and the dissidents.
