Umariya, 10th Aug: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday asserted that “Operation Sindoor” is a symbol of India’s self-reliance, proving the nation’s capability to defeat its enemies with home-grown strength. He made the remarks while laying the foundation stone for the BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing (BRAHMA), a new rail manufacturing facility in Umariya, Madhya Pradesh.
Calling the operation a “befitting reply” to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the minister stated that India’s decisive response sent a clear message that it no longer tolerates attacks on its sovereignty. “We do not provoke anyone, but those who provoke us will not be spared,” he said.
The BRAHMA facility, a greenfield project to be developed across 148 acres, is a significant step towards the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. BEML plans to invest ₹1,800 crore to establish the unit, which is expected to be completed in about two years. It will manufacture advanced rolling stock, including Vande Bharat train sets, metro cars, and high-speed rail coaches for both domestic and export markets. The facility is expected to create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
Rajnath Singh also lauded the transformation of the defence sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, highlighting that annual defence production in FY 2024-25 soared to a record ₹1.51 lakh crore, with exports reaching an all-time high of ₹23,622 crore. He said that projects like BRAHMA are critical in building the industrial and technological base required for both national security and economic growth.
