New Delhi, 24th Sept: WaveX, the dedicated startup accelerator under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s WAVES initiative, has unveiled seven new incubation centres to boost innovation in the Media, Entertainment and AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, Extended Reality) sectors.
The new hubs will operate at Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) campuses in Delhi, Jammu, Dhenkanal, Kottayam and Amravati, along with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata. They join the flagship Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) centre in Mumbai.
These facilities will offer high-end infrastructure including 8K cameras, 4K HDR edit suites, virtual production stages with LED walls, photogrammetry systems, and professional sound and colour-mix theatres. Startups can develop film, gaming and immersive media projects to global standards and gain access to international events such as VivaTech in Paris and the Game Developers Conference in the US.
Each centre will select 15 startups for its first cohort, with a monthly fee of ₹8,500 plus GST. Preference will be given to ventures in media-entertainment and AVGC-XR. Applications are now open via wavex.wavesbazaar.com.
WaveX offers intensive business modelling, product development, funding access and policy clinics in its active phase, followed by global showcasing opportunities. Partnerships with IITs, T-Hub and other incubators will broaden learning and investor networks.
The initiative aims to create a nationwide ecosystem for next-generation creators by integrating government media units such as Doordarshan, All India Radio and the Press Information Bureau for real-world collaboration.
