New Delhi, 10th Dec: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday expressed joy and pride over UNESCO’s decision to inscribe Deepavali on the Intangible Cultural Heritage list, calling it a milestone that honours India’s rich civilisational legacy.
In a message shared on social media, the Vice-President said Deepavali is “not merely a festival, but a civilisational phenomenon” that binds the nation together and resonates globally. He said the festival reflects India’s multiculturalism, pluralism and social unity, while delivering an enduring message of hope, harmony and the triumph of light over darkness and Dharma over Adharma.
Radhakrishnan congratulated citizens across the country, saying the UNESCO honour recognises not only India’s cultural heritage but also the universal appeal of Deepavali’s values.
The inscription follows a detailed nomination process led by the Ministry of Culture and marks another major step in amplifying India’s intangible cultural traditions on the global stage.
