New Delhi, 28th Feb: Vice-President and Chancellor of the University of Delhi, C. P. Radhakrishnan, conferred degrees on over 1.2 lakh students at the 102nd Convocation ceremony on Saturday, describing the occasion as a milestone of both achievement and responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President praised the University’s 104-year journey from a modest beginning of three colleges and 750 students to a sprawling institution comprising 16 faculties, 86 departments, 90 colleges and over six lakh students. He noted that the number of graduating students alone exceeds the population of many countries.
Highlighting academic excellence, he observed that Delhi University has retained the top position among Indian universities in the QS World University Rankings for four consecutive years.
Calling the degree “not just a certificate but a commitment,” the Vice-President said graduates are stepping into a rapidly transforming world shaped by artificial intelligence, climate change and shifting global dynamics. He urged them to uphold the principle of “Nation First – Rashtra Pratham” and contribute meaningfully to society.
Linking youth participation to the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, he said the realization of a developed and Aatmanirbhar Bharat will depend on the integrity, competence and innovative spirit of young citizens.
The Vice-President expressed particular satisfaction that over 50 percent of graduates and more than 70 percent of gold medallists this year are women, calling it a powerful reflection of the growth of women’s education in India.
In his concluding remarks, he urged graduates to remain lifelong learners, reject drugs and use social media responsibly, emphasizing that balanced and value-driven conduct will define their contribution to nation-building.
The ceremony was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, faculty members, dignitaries and families of the graduating students.
