New Delhi, 16th Oct: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan was briefed today on the initiatives and achievements of the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). The briefing was given by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State Dr. Sukanta Majumdar at Parliament House.
The Vice-President was updated on the country’s expanding telecom and internet infrastructure, government efforts to ensure last-mile connectivity, and measures to provide affordable data services, which are fueling India’s digital transformation.
Radhakrishnan also commended the revival of BSNL, new initiatives by the Department of Posts, and the efficient functioning of the Speed Post system, including the India Post Payments Bank.
On the North Eastern Region, the Vice-President was briefed about enhanced budget allocations, expansion of rail and road networks, development of new airports, promotion of tourism, organization of investment summits, and increased private sector participation. Efforts to harness the region’s hydropower potential were also highlighted.
VP Radhakrishnan expressed satisfaction with the accelerated pace of development in the North East, the creation of new opportunities, and improvements in regional security.
