Pune, 22nd March: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday emphasised the importance of yoga and naturopathy in building a “Swasth Bharat” while addressing the 81st Foundation Day of Nisargopachar Ashram in Uruli Kanchan, Pune.
Describing the Ashram as more than an institution, he said it represents a philosophy rooted in the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, who believed that nature is the greatest healer and that true health lies in simplicity and disciplined living.
Highlighting the growing burden of lifestyle diseases, the Vice-President stressed that health must be seen as a state of complete physical, mental and spiritual well-being. He urged people to adopt balanced nutrition, regular exercise and a lifestyle aligned with nature.
He also noted that India’s traditional systems of medicine have gained global recognition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with AYUSH playing a key role in preventive healthcare and wellness tourism.
Radhakrishnan said yoga and naturopathy should be seen as complementary to modern medicine, describing them as invaluable contributions of India to the world.
Calling for a shift in perspective, he said true happiness lies not in material success but in balance, peace and harmony.
“As individuals become healthy, families strengthen, society prospers and the nation rises,” he said, linking the vision of Viksit Bharat with the need for a healthy India.
During the visit, the Vice-President paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Manibhai Desai and released the book “Secrets of our Happiness” authored by Dr. Narayan Hegde.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh.
