New Delhi | 21st January :Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday released the book “Chalice of Ambrosia: Ram Janmabhoomi – Challenge and Response”, authored by former Secretary to the Government of India Shri Surendra Kumar Pachauri, at the Vice President’s Enclave in New Delhi. The book documents the long and complex journey of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, blending historical research with contemporary developments.
Ram Mandir as a Defining Moment
Addressing a gathering of senior officials, scholars, and public figures, the Vice President described the construction of the Shri Ram Mandir at Ayodhya as a defining moment in India’s civilisational journey, where faith, history, law, and democracy converged with dignity. He remarked that while temples may be built across the country, none could match the civilisational and spiritual significance of a temple at the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram.
He asserted that Lord Ram represents the soul of the nation and the essence of India’s dharma, adding that dharma can never be defeated and truth ultimately prevails. Referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of Ram Rajya, the Vice President said it symbolises justice, equality, and dignity for all citizens.
Supreme Court Verdict and Democratic Strength
The Vice President reflected on the prolonged legal struggle surrounding Ram Janmabhoomi, calling it painful yet instructive. He said the 2019 Supreme Court verdict fulfilled the long-cherished aspirations of millions of Indians and demonstrated the strength of Indian democracy, where faith alone did not determine outcomes and due legal process was followed. This, he said, justified India’s description as the Mother of Democracy.
He added that the verdict and the subsequent construction of the Ram Mandir restored the self-respect of Indians worldwide.
People’s Movement and Scholarly Record
Commending the author, Shri Radhakrishnan said that writing history demands emotional balance and fidelity to truth, and praised Shri Pachauri for documenting the Ram Janmabhoomi movement without sensationalism or distortion. He noted that gaps in historical documentation had prolonged the struggle, and the book helps preserve the memory of sacrifices made to restore civilisational values.
Highlighting public participation, the Vice President recalled the crowd-funded contribution of over ₹3,000 crore mobilised by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, calling it a rare example of a people’s movement in modern India.
Universal Appeal of Lord Ram
The Vice President underlined the global presence of Lord Ram’s ideals, noting their influence from Ayodhya and Rameswaram to Fiji and Angkor Wat in Cambodia. He concluded by urging citizens to imbibe Lord Ram’s ideals of virtue, compassion, and moral strength in daily life.
