Thiruvananthapuram, 8th Nov. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has escalated his criticism of the Congress party, alleging that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election with the backing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Vijayan accused the Congress of revealing its true secular stance, claiming that the party is now aligned with Jamaat-e-Islami, an organization he criticized for its anti-democratic ideology.
He questioned Congress’s commitment to secularism, stating that Jamaat-e-Islami’s opposition to democratic governance and its historical sectarian positions, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, should not be ignored.
Vijayan further noted that while Jamaat-e-Islami claims to be distinct in Wayanad, its ideology remains unchanged, one that rejects democratic structures.
He raised concerns about Congress’s alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami, asking the party to recall the firm stance of the late Marxist leader EMS Namboodiripad against communal alliances.
The by-election in Wayanad, triggered by Rahul Gandhi’s decision to vacate the seat, will be held on November 13, with CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri contesting from the Left and BJP’s Navya Haridas running for the BJP.
