Patna, 24th August. Vijay Kumar Sinha, Speaker of Bihar Assembly, announced his resignation on Wednesday on the floor of the House after an emotional speech in which he expressed anguish over the no-confidence motion moved against him by the new ruling ‘Mahagathbandhan’.

Sinha, a member of the BJP, which has lost power in the state, left the House in disarray when he adjourned proceedings until 2 p.m.

He made a hasty exit from the House, and almost all of the BJP’s MLAs followed suit, wearing saffron scarves and shouting slogans like Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and Jai Shri Ram’.

Earlier, Sinha spoke for nearly 20 minutes, claiming that after the unexpected change of government, he wanted to resign on his own but decided otherwise after he learnt that a no-confidence motion had been moved against him.

It had become my responsibility to respond to the motion. Some of the members who proposed the motion accused me of being undemocratic and dictatorial. This is something I cannot accept, said Sinha.
