Dehradun, 17th Jan: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday inaugurated the Jagran Forum in Dehradun, organised to mark 25 years of Uttarakhand’s statehood, and described the state as a land of sacrifice, resilience and national service.

Extending congratulations to the people of Uttarakhand, he recalled the democratic struggle behind the state’s creation and said it reflected the strength of India’s federal structure. He also shared that he had voted in favour of the Bill for Uttarakhand’s formation while serving as a Member of Parliament.

Calling Uttarakhand “Devbhoomi,” the Vice-President said the state embodies the spirit of Satyam, Shivam and Sundaram, drawing from Vedic and Puranic traditions. He highlighted its ecological significance, noting that its glaciers, rivers and forests sustain life far beyond its borders.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for rapid progress in road, rail, air and digital connectivity. At the same time, he praised Uttarakhand for pioneering green development, particularly solar energy, and for being the first state to conceptualise Gross Environmental Product alongside GDP.

Emphasising national security, he noted that a large number of Indian Armed Forces officers hail from Uttarakhand. Referring to border villages, he said they should be seen not as the “last posts” but as India’s “first line of strength,” echoing Modi’s description of Mana as India’s first village.

Looking ahead to Viksit Bharat 2047, he said Uttarakhand has vast potential in renewable energy, organic farming, horticulture, AYUSH, ecotourism, startups and skill development.

Highlighting the role of media, the Vice-President urged newspapers to dedicate at least two pages regularly to positive and development-oriented news to inspire youth. He appreciated Dainik Jagran for its constructive journalism.

The event was attended by Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and senior Dainik Jagran representatives including Managing Editor Tarun Gupta and Director Sunil Gupta.
