Bhopal, 30th Nov.
In a significant decision by the Madhya Pradesh government, Veera Rana, a 1988 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the Chief Secretary. This historic appointment makes her the second woman to hold this position in the history of Madhya Pradesh.

The government issued an official order on November 29, confirming Ms. Rana’s promotion, and she will assume office today. Currently, she serves as the Chairperson of the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education and also holds the additional charge of the state’s agriculture production commissioner.

Veera Rana will succeed Iqbal Singh Bains, a 1985 batch IAS officer, who is retiring after receiving two extensions. Mr. Bains was initially set to retire on November 30, 2022, but his retirement date was extended twice due to the assembly elections.

Prior to Ms. Rana, Nirmala Buch, a distinguished 1960 batch IAS officer, served as the first female chief secretary of Madhya Pradesh from 1991 to 1992. Unfortunately, Ms. Buch passed away in July of this year, leaving behind a remarkable career with significant contributions in various roles.

Ms. Rana has an impressive track record, having previously served as the Collector of Vidisha, Jabalpur, and Mahasamund Districts of Madhya Pradesh, as well as holding responsibilities in various important departments throughout her career.
