New Delhi, 4th Jan: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday showcased the new-generation Vande Bharat sleeper train, highlighting its upgraded amenities as he walked through its coaches at the New Delhi railway station along with mediapersons.
The minister said special attention has been given to passenger comfort, with features such as spacious tray holders, adjustable window shades, reading lights, hangers, magazine holders and deep wash basins designed to prevent water splashing.
He announced that the 16-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train is ready for launch and will be flagged off “very soon” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Kolkata–Guwahati route. One train will be shifted to Guwahati while another will move to Kolkata for the inaugural ceremony, officials said.
To enhance accessibility, Braille labels have been provided on seat numbers for visually impaired passengers.
The train is equipped with ergonomically designed berths with improved cushioning, automatic doors with vestibules for smooth movement, advanced suspension for better ride comfort, noise-reduction systems, Kavach automatic train protection, an emergency talk-back system and disinfectant technology to maintain high sanitation standards.
Recently, the Vande Bharat sleeper completed its final high-speed trials under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Comprehensive technical evaluations were conducted covering ride stability, oscillation, vibration behaviour, braking and emergency braking systems and other safety parameters.
Officials said the train comprises 11 coaches of 3 AC, four coaches of 2 AC and one coach of 1 AC. Of the total 823 berths, 611 are in 3 AC, 188 in 2 AC and 24 in 1 AC.
Earlier, Vaishnaw said fares have been designed keeping the middle class in mind, with 3 AC fares around Rs 2,300, 2 AC around Rs 3,000 and 1 AC around Rs 3,600, including food.
