Gurugram, 26th Dec. An Uzbek national residing in Gurugram was recently robbed of $16,000 by a group of individuals pretending to be police officers, officials said on Monday.
The victim, Sobiroy Botir, who hails from Uzbekistan, had come to Gurugram with his two brothers for a kidney transplant at Artemis Hospital, as per the police report.
In his complaint, filed through his hotel manager, Mohit Sehrawat, Botir stated that the incident occurred on Saturday around 9 pm while they were returning to their hotel from a shopping mall.
As they were nearing the hotel, a car with several occupants stopped them about 100 meters away. These individuals claimed to be policemen and even presented their ID cards, demanding to inspect their bags, Botir explained in his complaint.
After examining their passports, one of the impostors discreetly took Botir’s bag, containing $16,000, and swiftly fled the scene in the car, the police revealed.
Upon receiving the complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified culprits under sections 379A (snatching), 419 (cheating by impersonation), and 34 (common intention) at the Sector 53 Police Station on Sunday.
