Ohio 5th Jan-The Ohio residence of US Vice President JD Vance was attacked in the early hours of Monday, triggering a swift security response and the arrest of one suspect. According to law enforcement officials, several windows were smashed and a vehicle belonging to the Vance family was damaged during the incident. The Vice President and his family were not present at the time of the attack.
The US Secret Service confirmed that a 26-year-old man, identified as William DeFoor, was taken into custody shortly after the incident. Security personnel stationed at the property alerted local police at approximately 12:15 a.m. after observing a suspect fleeing the scene near East Walnut Hills, the neighborhood where the Vance residence is located. Cincinnati Police officers responded promptly and detained DeFoor without further incident.
Authorities stated that four windows of the home were damaged, along with a car parked on the property. There was no indication that the suspect managed to enter the house, and no injuries were reported. Sources familiar with the investigation told CNN that initial assessments suggest the breach was limited to property damage.
According to a FOX 19 Now report, DeFoor now faces multiple charges, including obstructing official business, criminal damaging or endangering, criminal trespass, and vandalism. Investigators are currently examining whether the suspect specifically targeted Vice President Vance or his family, or whether the act was opportunistic in nature.
Security around the Vice President’s residence had reportedly been heightened in recent days, with roads surrounding the property closed for several days before reopening on Sunday afternoon. The reasons for the earlier restrictions were not publicly detailed, but officials emphasized that protective measures remain under constant review.
In a statement cited by multiple media outlets, the US Secret Service said it is “coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and the US Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed.” Officials added that the investigation remains ongoing, and no conclusions have yet been drawn regarding motive.
The incident comes amid heightened concern over the safety of public officials in the United States, with attacks and threats against political figures drawing increased scrutiny. While authorities stressed that the Vice President and his family were never in danger during this incident, the attack has renewed questions about security protocols at the private residences of senior government leaders.
Further details are expected as investigators continue to question the suspect and assess the circumstances surrounding the attack.
