US Urges India and Pakistan to Resolve Targeted Killing Allegations Through Dialogue

New Delhi, 9th April.
The United States commented on Monday regarding reports accusing India of conducting targeted killings in Pakistan, emphasizing the need for both countries to seek a solution through dialogue.

India had recently refuted these allegations, dismissing them as “false and malicious anti-India propaganda” following a report in The Guardian, a UK daily, which cited Pakistani evidence.

In response to queries about the allegations, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that while the US government refrains from intervening directly, it encourages India and Pakistan to refrain from escalating tensions and instead work towards a resolution through dialogue.

The Guardian report suggested that India’s intelligence agency RAW had carried out approximately 20 such targeted killings since the Pulwama attack in 2019. It referenced evidence provided by Pakistan and interviews with intelligence officials from both countries.

The report also alleged that India had adopted a policy of targeting individuals deemed hostile to its interests and cited Pakistani officers accusing Indian intelligence sleeper cells in the UAE of carrying out the assassinations.

Additionally, the report drew parallels between India’s alleged actions and tactics employed by intelligence agencies like Israel’s Mossad and Russia’s KGB, as well as the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

India swiftly rejected these charges, with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar asserting that targeted killings were not part of the Indian government’s policy. The denial from India’s Ministry of External Affairs was highlighted in The Guardian’s report.
