New Delhi, 26th Nov: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla on Wednesday described the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as a vital pillar of nation-building anchored in merit, integrity, and ethical governance. He was addressing the inaugural session of the UPSC Centenary Shatabdi Sammelan in New Delhi, marking the Commission’s 100-year journey.

In his keynote address, Shri Birla said the UPSC’s century-long legacy is a defining chapter in India’s democratic and administrative evolution. He noted that the institution, rooted in transparency and ethical values, has inspired millions of young Indians to dedicate themselves to public service.

The Speaker emphasized that as India moves toward becoming a developed and inclusive nation by 2047, the role of the Commission becomes even more crucial. In an era shaped by digital transformation and artificial intelligence, he said, the UPSC has reformed its systems and set new benchmarks of good governance through advanced, scientific, and transparent selection processes.

Shri Birla observed that by providing equal opportunities to candidates from diverse social and geographical backgrounds, the Commission has strengthened India’s democratic structure. He called the UPSC’s 100-year trajectory not just administrative history but an enduring testament to its contribution to governance, development, and public service delivery across the nation. This commitment, he added, has reinforced public trust in India’s administrative systems.

He further said that over the past century, the UPSC has enabled millions of young Indians to serve the nation through knowledge, hard work, and ethical values. By reflecting India’s linguistic, social, and regional diversity, the Commission has enriched the administrative machinery and promoted inclusive governance.

Expressing confidence in the institution’s future, Shri Birla said the centenary year would inspire fresh energy, direction, and resolve for the decades ahead. He added that the UPSC will continue to produce officers who will act as catalysts for nation-building, contributing to the vision of a developed and globally leading India.

On the occasion, the Speaker extended greetings to former and current UPSC chairpersons, members, officers, and staff. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and other dignitaries were present. UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar delivered the welcome address.
