UP’s Unemployment Rate Drops to 2.4% as Yogi Govt Marks Eight Years of Industrial Push

Lucknow, 5th Dec:
Uttar Pradesh’s employment landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past eight years, with the state government reporting a steep drop in the unemployment rate—from 19% earlier to just 2.4% today. The Yogi Adityanath-led administration attributes this change to rapid industrial expansion, robust MSME growth and large-scale skill development initiatives.

The government’s employment roadmap, officials say, has altered both urban and rural job prospects, creating new opportunities while reducing migration from villages to cities.

GCC Policy 2025 Powers Global Job Opportunities

At the core of this shift is the GCC (Global Capability Centre) Policy 2025, which aims to attract multinational companies and generate over two lakh new jobs. The policy has opened doors for skilled youths to secure high-end technology roles within the state instead of looking for employment outside.

Simultaneously, the UP Rojgar Mission has placed 1.25 lakh people in jobs within just one year, signaling a renewed momentum in the state’s labour market.

MSME Sector Emerges as UP’s Biggest Job Engine

Uttar Pradesh now hosts more than 96 lakh MSME units, making it one of India’s strongest hubs for small and medium enterprises. These units have collectively generated over two crore employment opportunities, with 18 lakh new jobs added in the past year alone.

Government-backed incentives, simplified credit access and a focus on rural entrepreneurship have turned MSMEs into the backbone of the state’s local economy. Officials say this surge has strengthened village industries, boosted self-employment and reduced dependence on urban jobs.

Skill Development Mission Trains Youth, Boosts Women’s Participation

The state’s Skill Development Mission has trained more than 14 lakh youths, out of which 5.66 lakh have secured direct employment. This has allowed industries to tap into a skilled workforce while giving young professionals opportunities closer to home.

One of the most notable changes is the rise in women’s participation in industrial employment, now standing at 25%. This shift, the government argues, reflects not only economic empowerment but also a broader social transformation. Increased female employment has elevated household incomes and contributed to improving living standards in rural regions.

Rural Employment Strengthens as Migration Declines

Flagship initiatives like Rozgar Mahakumbh 2025 and multiple financial support schemes have helped ensure minimum wages, formal job contracts and social security benefits for fresh recruits. The ripple effect is most visible in rural areas, where young people are finding work locally, leading to a significant reduction in migration to major cities.

Officials say the rise in women’s employment and local job creation has strengthened the economic foundation of rural families, promoting stability and reducing pressure on urban centres.

UP Sets Target to Become a Developed State by 2047

Positioning employment at the heart of economic progress, the Yogi government has laid out an ambitious target—to transform Uttar Pradesh into a fully developed state by 2047. With expanding investment corridors, sustained industrialisation and political intent, the administration claims that the groundwork for long-term structural change is firmly in motion.

As the state continues consolidating its industrial and employment ecosystem, Uttar Pradesh’s economic trajectory, officials say, is now aligned with its aspiration of becoming one of India’s most powerful growth engines by mid-century.
