UP Police Secure Fatehpur Tomb After Right-Wing Disturbance

Fatehpur, 12th Aug: In a swift response to a law and order situation, the Fatehpur district police and administration have sealed off all roads leading to a centuries-old tomb after Hindu right-wing organizations entered the premises, creating a ruckus. The groups claimed that the site, which houses the tomb of Nawab Abu Samad, was originally a temple.

Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh confirmed that the area is now under tight security and continuous drone surveillance. He stated that the sections of the tomb that were damaged during the incident were repaired overnight. Additional Director General of Police (Prayagraj) Sanjeev Gupta visited the site and sanctioned extra police forces from neighboring Kaushambi and Prayagraj to maintain peace. He also led a flag march to reassure the public.

Police have registered a case against over 150 individuals for public nuisance and damage to public property. An official stated that the FIR includes the names of several local leaders from various parties, including Dharmendra Singh (Bajrang Dal), Abhishek Shukla and Devnath Dhakar (BJP), and Pappu Chauhan (Samajwadi Party). UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said the government has taken the matter seriously.

In a letter to the District Magistrate, the Ulema Council condemned the incident, accusing the organizations of attempting to damage a national heritage site under the pretense of a temple claim. The council demanded strict action against the culprits and called for enhanced security for the monument.
