Lucknow, 27th Sept: Uttar Pradesh Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel on Friday called the recent assault on a Basic Education Officer (BEO) in Sitapur “extremely unfortunate,” urging an impartial investigation before assigning blame.

In a post on X, Patel said, “The Sitapur teacher incident is extremely unfortunate. Brijendra Verma, a hardworking, honest and regular school attendee, was harassed to the point of losing his temper. It is unfair to unilaterally blame a teacher based on a mere 20-second video clip.” He added that CCTV footage from the entire episode must be reviewed and “strict action should be taken against whoever is found guilty.”

Patel said he has spoken with Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh, who assured him of a fair probe and strict action against anyone responsible.

According to officials, BEO Akhilesh Pratap Singh was allegedly attacked in his office on Tuesday by Nadwa Primary School headmaster Brijendra Verma during an inquiry into a harassment complaint lodged by an assistant teacher. Singh claimed Verma suddenly “took out his belt and attacked me” after being confronted with statements from staff.

Police have taken Verma into custody, and he has been suspended with immediate effect.
