UNITED NATIONS, 9th Feb. UN Security Council on Friday has condemned in the strongest terms the deadly “heinous and cowardly terrorist attacks” in Pakistan on Wednesday, in a press statement issued in New York.
The statement noted that 26 people were killed, and dozens more wounded, in twin bombings in Pishin and Qila Saifullah, Balochistan, on the eve of Pakistan’s parliamentary elections.
According to international media reports the Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Council members expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Pakistan and wished a speedy and full recovery to the injured, the statement said
The statement stressed that the members of the Council also underlined the need to hold accountable those who perpetrate, organize, finance and sponsor “these reprehensible acts of terrorism” and bring them to justice.
