New Delhi, 8th April. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has denied accusations of assaulting residents in Bhupatinagar, West Bengal, where they were conducting searches related to a blast case that occurred in December 2022, resulting in three deaths.
The NIA stated that their team was violently attacked by a mob in Naruabila village without any provocation, hindering their lawful duties. The searches were carried out at five locations with independent witnesses present, under the protection of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including female constables.
Two key suspects in the bomb blast case were eventually arrested in East Midnapore district following proper procedures, despite the attack on the NIA team during the arrest process.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the NIA of working for the BJP and questioned the timing and legality of the arrests. However, the NIA clarified that they were following legal procedures and faced aggression from the crowd while taking the accused to the police station.
An NIA officer was injured, and a vehicle was damaged during the attack. The NIA has filed a police complaint against the assailants and emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against the arrested individuals.
A special NIA court in Kolkata granted permission for the investigation to proceed swiftly and take necessary actions in accordance with the law for a thorough inquiry.
