Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday underscored the significance of national unity during his speech at the ‘Koti Deepotsavam’ event, emphasizing that divisions within the country have historically led to defeat. He stressed that maintaining unity is as vital as ensuring the safety of the nation’s borders.

Speaking at the mass lighting of ‘Deepam’ in the Hindu month of Kartik, Singh said, “Whenever our unity has weakened, invaders have tried their best to destroy our civilisation and culture.” He urged people to learn from history and take a pledge to maintain unity across religious, caste, and sectarian lines.

“The whole country has to stay together,” he asserted, urging the public to refrain from division. Singh emphasized that avoiding division would lead to the country’s progress and strengthen India on the global stage.

Quoting ancient scriptures, the Defence Minister highlighted that unity is the foundation of a strong society and should be spread not just across India but throughout the world, reflecting India’s vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world is one family.

Singh also spoke about the government’s commitment to cultural revival under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He pointed out that cultural development is as important as political, economic, and social progress. “If a nation loses its culture, then that country suffers,” he said, asserting that the preservation of India’s culture is as crucial as safeguarding its borders.

The Defence Minister further noted that India is not merely a political entity but a country with a cultural identity spanning thousands of years, which has garnered global respect. He added that those who previously sought to undermine India’s culture have failed, thanks to a growing awareness among the people.

The Defence Minister concluded by reaffirming the ongoing cultural revival in the country, marking it as a crucial aspect of national strength and identity.
