Raipur/Gorbi, 2nd July: Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey concluded a two-day official visit to the operational zones of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), where he inaugurated critical infrastructure, interacted with workers, and emphasized the central role of coal in building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
During the visit from June 30 to July 1, the Minister toured key SECL mines, including Dipka and Churcha underground projects, and launched a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, productivity, and sustainability.
At SECL’s Chirimiri Area, Dubey virtually inaugurated a state-of-the-art low-height Continuous Miner machine at the NCPH underground mine. “The coal sector plays a crucial role in building Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, coal shortages are now history. Our mission is to ramp up underground coal production to 100 million tonnes by 2030 using advanced technologies,” he said.
The Minister also inaugurated a Main Mechanical Ventilator (MMV) at Churcha Mine in the Baikunthpur Area, a vital safety upgrade that ensures fresh airflow for underground workers. To support women in the workforce, he inaugurated bio-toilets and acknowledged the growing role of women in the mining sector.
In a symbolic gesture towards environmental conservation, Shri Dubey planted a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign at Churcha Mine. He also recognized the dedication of exemplary employees, including women and contract workers, by felicitating them for their service.
On June 30, upon his arrival in Raipur, the Minister met with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. The two leaders held discussions on accelerating land acquisition and rehabilitation processes for upcoming coal projects across the state.
At Dipka Area, the Minister took part in another plantation drive at Pragati House and laid the foundation stone for a new entrance gate and security complex. He also reviewed operational updates and future growth plans at the Dipka View Point, where officials presented a detailed briefing on SECL’s performance.
Commending SECL’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Shri Dubey appreciated the ‘SECL Ki Dhadkan’ program, which funds critical heart surgeries for children. He also visited contract workers’ camps to understand their living conditions and assess welfare provisions.
SECL CMD Harish Duhan, Functional Directors, CVO, and senior officials accompanied the Minister throughout the visit, underscoring the company’s commitment to innovation, safety, and inclusivity in India’s coal sector.
