Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Highlights Significance of APAAR ID in National Conference

Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday attended the National Conference on APAAR: One Nation One Student ID Card in New Delhi.

The event witnessed the esteemed presence of dignitaries including Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Sanjay K. Murthy; Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, Sanjay Kumar; Secretary, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Atul Kumar Tiwari; Secretary, MEITY, S. Krishnan; Chairman, National Council for Vocational Education and Training, Dr. Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi; Chairman, National Educational Technology Forum NBA NAAC, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe; Vice Chancellors, Directors, Registrars, Controller of Examinations from various institutions across the country, senior officials of the Ministry of Education and Electronics and Information Technology, and industry partners.

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education Govind Jaiswal set the tone for the conference with a warm welcome address.

In his address, Pradhan underscored the significance of the APAAR ID as a pivotal document for students nationwide, envisioned to be aspirational and globally recognized. He highlighted the strides made in digital infrastructure development, with India leading the way with 19 out of 53 Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) globally.

The minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for catalyzing the ‘Digital India’ vision, which has resulted in the creation of 25 crore APAAR IDs. Emphasizing the interconnectedness of APAAR IDs, Academic Bank of Credit, and Digilocker, he stressed the importance of seamless operations. Furthermore, he elaborated on the role of NEP2020 in fostering competency through skilling, alongside traditional education.

Sanjay Kumar echoed the sentiment, highlighting the expansive reach and vision of APAAR ID.

He elucidated NEP2020’s key recommendations, such as ensuring 100% Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) till Class 12 and proficiency in industry-aligned skills. APAAR, he mentioned, facilitates tracking of the vast student populace in India, with 25 crore children already assigned Permanent Education Numbers and corresponding APAAR IDs.

K. Sanjay Murthy shed light on the benefits of APAAR IDs and another significant DPI, Samarth, emphasizing its seamless integration and access. He urged institutions to adopt the Samarth platform and informed about the upcoming launch of a new version of the Swayam platform, featuring industry-relevant courses and digital record validation.

The event featured panel discussions on integrating APAAR ID and Credit Systems with Job Profiles, and exploring the evolving role of DigiLocker in education.

APAAR, a transformative initiative aligned with NEP 2020 and NCrF, aims to provide a unified academic experience by assigning a unique and permanent 12-digit ID to every student. For more information, visit ABC.gov.in.
