Unidentified Illness Claims 17 Lives in Rajouri, Containment Zone Imposed

Rajouri, 25th Jan. In a concerning development, the district administration of Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, imposed a containment zone and Section 144 on Saturday in Badhal village following an outbreak of an unidentified illness that has claimed 17 lives.

Authorities have set up checkpoints on all routes leading to the affected village and are providing essential services such as ration and drinking water. In a bid to contain the disease’s spread, restrictions have been placed on both public and private gatherings.

Medical teams have been deployed to conduct tests and provide treatment to those affected. A central team of experts has been sent to investigate the cause of the mysterious illness, and over 200 samples have been sent to various institutes for further examination.

A pharmacist, speaking to ANI, mentioned that paramedics and nurses are working tirelessly around the clock to manage the situation. “We are ensuring that patients are transferred to Rajouri if their condition worsens. Our medical team is actively investigating the situation,” the pharmacist said.

Shafeel Choudhary, a local resident, revealed that the illness had been spreading in the area for over a month and a half. “Those who have been in contact with the affected individuals are being sent to quarantine. The administration is ensuring proper care and precautions,” he said.

Rajouri’s Government Medical College (GMC) is being bolstered with additional resources. The health department has dispatched five child specialists and five anaesthesiologists to strengthen the medical team at GMC Rajouri. Dr. AS Bhatia, Principal of GMC Rajouri, confirmed that all necessary technology is in place to handle any emergency.

In response to the crisis, MLA Budhal, Javaid Iqbal, has appealed to the Union government to provide air ambulances for the swift evacuation of patients in critical conditions.

The illness presents with symptoms including fever, sweating, vomiting, dehydration, and episodic loss of consciousness. Despite initial tests, no bacterial or viral infections have been detected, adding to the mystery surrounding the disease.

The situation remains under close monitoring as the local administration and medical teams continue their efforts to identify the cause and contain the spread of the illness.
