New Delhi, 9th Jan.
The tensions between India and Maldives have been escalating due to objectionable tweets from three Maldivian ministers targeting India and PM Modi. This controversy began with a tweet from political commentator Roshan Sinha, also known as Mr. Sinha, after PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep in early January.

How It All Started; Controversial Praise

Sinha’s tweet praised India’s actions, describing it as a blow to alleged Chinese influence in Maldives and predicting a boost in tourism for Lakshadweep.

This commendation angered Mariam Shiuna, the Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts in Maldives. She responded with objectionable comments about PM Modi, which led to her suspension along with two other ruling party leaders in Maldives.

Clarifying the Intentions: Denouncing the Maldivian Government, Not the Nation

Sinha clarified that his criticism was aimed at the new pro-China government in Maldives, not the country itself. Despite the controversy escalating, he condemned the use of objectionable language against PM Modi by Maldivian officials.

Diplomatic Consequences: Summoning the High Commissioner

In response to the heightened tensions, India summoned the Maldivian High Commissioner to send a strong message during the Maldives President’s visit to China. Sinha viewed this as a significant diplomatic signal in the midst of strained relations.
Threats Amidst the Controversy

Targeted with Threats

Originally from Bihar and currently involved in business in Gujarat, Mr. Sinha frequently shares his opinions on Indian politics, geopolitics, and foreign policy. However, since the Maldives-related controversy, he has reported receiving threats through his social media accounts. Several of his previous accounts have also been suspended due to the controversies.

Israel’s Desalination Project to Boost Lakshadweep Tourism

In an effort to enhance tourism prospects in Lakshadweep, Israel has announced the launch of a desalination project. This initiative brings hope to the tourism industry in the Indian archipelago amidst the ongoing controversies involving the Maldives.

In a social media announcement, the Israeli embassy confirmed their readiness to begin the desalination project in Lakshadweep. They stated, “We were in #Lakshadweep last year, responding to the federal government’s request to start the desalination project.”

Alongside visuals showcasing the region’s pristine beaches, the embassy invited travelers to explore the captivating underwater wonders of #lakshadweepislands.

Through these images, the embassy aimed to entice those who have yet to discover the serene and enchanting beaches of Lakshadweep, promising a mesmerizing underwater experience.
