London, 21st Oct: At the Community Diwali Celebrations, senior politician and four-time Member of Parliament from Ealing and Southall, Virendra Sharma, delivered an inspiring address that highlighted the universal message of light triumphing over darkness and the need for compassion and unity in today’s world.

Speaking to a gathering of distinguished guests and community members, Sharma described Diwali as a festival that transcends “religion, region, and language,” uniting people through shared values of hope, renewal, and togetherness.

“Even in the darkest of times, a single lamp can dispel the deepest darkness,” he said, urging everyone to embody the spirit of Diwali beyond rituals and celebrations. Sharma drew parallels between Diwali’s symbolism and the teachings of Lord Ram and Guru Hargobind Ji, emphasising the festival’s core message — the victory of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

Reflecting on his journey from Punjab to the UK Parliament, Sharma expressed pride in the way the Indian diaspora has transformed Diwali into a truly British festival, celebrating diversity, compassion, and shared prosperity.

He further urged the community to light “lamps of unity, equality, peace, and prosperity,” stressing that Diwali should inspire people to brighten not only their homes but also the lives of others. “The world becomes brighter when we share our light,” he remarked, calling for collective efforts to promote empathy and inclusion in society.

Concluding his speech, Sharma extended heartfelt greetings for Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas, wishing peace, harmony, and prosperity for all. “May the lights of Diwali guide us to a future filled with peace and hope,” he said.
