Sonipat, 26th Feb: The United Kingdom has expanded its ‘Visa Fraud Se Bache’ campaign to Haryana to safeguard Indian nationals from visa scams and the risks associated with irregular migration. The initiative was launched on February 26 at an event in Sonipat.

The programme was unveiled in the presence of Haryana Minister of State for Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Gaurav Gautam and UK Home Office Acting Permanent Secretary Simon Ridley.

Focus on High-Risk Districts
The campaign will concentrate on the districts of Ambala, Kaithal, Karnal and Kurukshetra, in coordination with the Haryana government. Haryana is the third state where the initiative has been introduced, following Punjab and Tamil Nadu.

Through outreach engagements, UK officials will highlight common warning signs of visa fraud. These include false guarantees of visas and jobs in the UK, claims that English-language tests such as IELTS are not required, and demands for excessive fees.

WhatsApp Chatbot for Verified Information
A dedicated WhatsApp chatbot (+91 70652 51380) has been introduced to help prospective travellers verify information and avoid falling prey to fraudulent agents. Authorities have urged applicants to rely only on official and verified sources for visa-related guidance.

UK Officials Stress Vigilance
British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron said the expansion of the campaign reflects the UK’s commitment to ensuring that travellers have access to accurate and authoritative information. She emphasised that no applicant should fall victim to exploitation.

British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh Alba Smeriglio stated that preventing exploitation and irregular migration remains a shared priority for the UK and India. She acknowledged the support of the Haryana government and Chief Minister Nayab Saini in implementing the campaign.

Stronger Action Against Visa Fraud
Visa fraud can lead to severe financial distress and exposure to exploitation. Authorities warned that individuals found committing visa fraud may face a 10-year ban on travel to the UK.

Under the Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement, India and the UK have committed to tackling irregular migration and visa fraud. The expanded campaign forms part of ongoing joint efforts to curb exploitation and enhance safe, legal travel pathways.
