New Delhi, 25th March: The United Kingdom’s Chief of the Air Staff, Sir Harv Smyth, is on a three-day visit to India aimed at strengthening defence cooperation between the two nations amid evolving global security challenges.

The visit began with the Air Chief paying homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial, followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour presented by the Indian Air Force.

Sir Harv Smyth held discussions with Indian Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, focusing on emerging aerial threats, operational coordination, and expanding bilateral military engagement.

The two sides reviewed ongoing cooperation, including joint training exercises and educational exchanges. Notably, under a recent agreement, the IAF will deploy three Qualified Flying Instructors to the Royal Air Force’s training base at RAF Valley in the United Kingdom.

Both Air Chiefs are also scheduled to visit Air Force Station Gwalior to gain insights into India’s operational practices and capabilities in countering modern aerial threats.

Speaking during the visit, Sir Harv Smyth described the engagement as an opportunity to deepen mutual trust and professionalism between the Royal Air Force and the IAF. He highlighted that ongoing instructor exchanges and joint training reflect a strong and evolving partnership focused on security, stability, and technological advancement.

British High Commission Defence Adviser Commodore Chris Saunders said the visit underscores the growing strategic importance of India-UK defence ties, noting that increased cooperation across domains is strengthening the bilateral relationship.

The visit is also expected to include meetings with senior civil and military leadership, further reinforcing defence collaboration between the two countries.
