New Delhi/Jaipur, 29th March: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared the Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology & Management, located in Bhiwadi, Alwar district of Rajasthan, as a “fake university”, cautioning students and parents against enrolling in the institution.

In an official notice, the UGC stated that the institute is not recognised under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and is therefore not authorised to award undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate (PG) degrees.

The Commission said it had come to its attention that the institute was awarding degrees in violation of the law. “Any degree awarded by this institute so far is not valid for higher education or government employment purposes,” the notice stated.

The regulator has advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid taking admission in such unrecognised institutions, stressing that such degrees hold no legal or academic value.

The development is part of the UGC’s updated state-wise list of fake universities as of March 2026, which includes multiple institutions across states such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal.

In Uttar Pradesh, institutions like Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University and Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad also feature in the list.

The UGC reiterated that students must verify the recognition status of institutions before seeking admission to safeguard their academic and professional future.
