Mumbai, 4th June. In a dramatic turn of events during the Lok Sabha polls, Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray and Sharadchandra Pawar have demonstrated that they lead the authentic Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) despite facing internal revolts and political upheavals.
As of 4:30 pm, nine hours into the vote counting, Uddhav Thackeray’s faction is leading in 9 seats and Sharad Pawar’s NCP in 7 seats. Their breakaway factions, led by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, are leading in 7 and 1 seats, respectively. The opposition alliance, INDIA, is ahead in 27 seats, while the BJP is leading in 20 seats.
In a show of confidence, posters emerged outside the Sena Bhavan proclaiming, “Who is the real Sena? People have shown.” This reflects the significant shift in Maharashtra’s political landscape compared to 2019. In the previous elections, the BJP and Shiv Sena alliance secured 41 out of 48 seats, while the NCP won four seats and Congress one.
The BJP-Sena alliance, which once swept state polls, fractured over disagreements regarding the Chief Minister’s post. Uddhav Thackeray then formed an alliance with NCP and Congress, leading to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. However, Thackeray’s government was upended when his close aide, Eknath Shinde, led a rebellion, subsequently allying with the BJP to become Chief Minister.
In a parallel upheaval, Sharad Pawar faced a revolt from his nephew, Ajit Pawar, who attempted to seize control of the NCP. Despite these challenges, both leaders have managed to reaffirm their leadership and political influence in Maharashtra.
Sharad Pawar, addressing the media, emphasized that the election results signify a broader change in the country, with Maharashtra playing a pivotal role. “I am proud of the people of Maharashtra,” he stated, highlighting the successful resurgence of the INDIA alliance.
The current trends not only validate the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar but also boost the morale of the Maha Vikas Aghadi as they prepare for the upcoming state elections. The alliance leaders are scheduled to convene a meeting tomorrow to discuss their strategy moving forward.
