Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray took aim at Ashok Chavan on Monday, bringing up the Adarsh housing scam and suggesting that if the BJP sends Chavan to the Rajya Sabha, it would be an insult to martyred soldiers.

Chavan, who has resigned from the Congress and as an MLA amidst speculation of joining the BJP, faced criticism from Thackeray during a rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city.

Thackeray referenced previous statements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding corruption allegations against Chavan, accusing him of disrespecting families of martyred soldiers.

He questioned the PM’s intent in potentially nominating Chavan, whom he dubbed a “dealer, not a leader,” to the Rajya Sabha.
Chavan submitted his resignation letters to state Congress president Nana Patole and Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, but has not confirmed his BJP affiliation yet.

Thackeray also called for the implementation of agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan’s recommendations and criticized the BJP for allegedly diverting investments to Gujarat.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Ambadas Danve also voiced their concerns. Raut accused state minister Abdul Sattar of involvement in scams, while Danve criticized the government over water scarcity issues in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city.

Former MP Chandrakant Khaire alleged that AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel’s agitation against a bank scam aimed to benefit his associates.
