Uddhav claims Fadnavis promised to groom Aaditya for position of Chief Minister

Maharashtra, 21st April. Chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Uddhav Thackeray, asserted on Saturday that as part of the two parties’ power-sharing arrangement, BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, had promised that the former’s son, Aaditya Thackeray, would be trained to run the state.

According to Thackeray, Fadnavis stated that he would like to go to the Centre within the next two to three years, giving Aaditya Thackeray the position of Chief Minister.  Speaking at a Dharavi rally against the backdrop of the Lok Sabha elections, the former chief minister of Maharashtra claimed that Amit Shah, the then-head of the BJP, had gone to Matoshree, the Thackeray family’s private residence, with the intention of proposing an alliance with Shiv Sena (undivided). He added that he was assured of a post-sharing arrangement between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Sena, which would involve a 2.5-year rotating Chief Ministership.

“During that period, Fadnavis was compelled to wait outside the late Bal Thackeray’s room as the two leaders—the Shah and Thackeray—discussed strategies. Subsequently, I was informed by Devendra Fadnavis, “Uddhav Ji, I will groom Aaditya for 2.5 years.” After 2.5 years, we can promote him to CM. I informed Fadnavis that Aditya was only beginning his political career. Uddhav remarked, “Don’t think he’s thinking anything like this.”

Sub-CM of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis responded to Uddhav’s claim by saying Uddhav had ‘lost his mind’ and was lying. He did, however, acknowledge that he had informed Uddhav about preparing Aaditya to assume party duties in the future.

He added that if the MVA government had not been established in the state, he would never have appointed Aaditya as a minister at all.

“Uddhav Thackeray is now in a state of delirium, or ‘bhramishta’. His delusions are real. He first claimed that Amit Shah had given him a Chief Ministership in a different capacity. At this point, he claims that I made his son a CM. Another lie is being told in order to conceal the first one. Aditya should not even be made a minister; less alone be made a Chief Minister. Aditya then became a minister during the MVA government, which is what led to the current state of affairs for the Shiv Sena (UBT),” stated Fadnavis.
