Baramulla: At least two terrorists were killed after security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district, the Army reported on Wednesday.
In an official statement, the Chinar Corps confirmed that around 2-3 suspected terrorists tried to infiltrate through the general area of Sarjeevan at Uri Nala in north Kashmir. The infiltration bid occurred early in the morning on April 23, 2025.
“Alert troops challenged and intercepted the infiltrators, leading to a firefight,” the Army posted on X around 8 am. After an hour of intense exchange, the Army confirmed that two terrorists had been “eliminated.”
A significant haul of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores was recovered from the terrorists, according to the Chinar Corps. The security forces added that the operation is ongoing as of now.
This encounter took place just hours after the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead and several others injured. The Pahalgam attack, the deadliest in recent years, targeted tourists in the famed Baisaran Valley, with a Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau officer among the victims. Military helicopters were deployed to evacuate the injured, as the area is only accessible on foot or horseback.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack in Pahalgam, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. “Those behind this heinous act will not be spared… their evil agenda will never succeed,” he posted on X. He emphasized India’s unshakable resolve to fight terrorism, adding that it would only grow stronger.
In response to the attack, Prime Minister Modi cut short his trip to Saudi Arabia and returned to India on Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, he convened a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Delhi airport to review the situation.
