Sultanpur, 1st Oct. Two teenage girls lost their lives on Monday after being struck by a train on the Lucknow-Varanasi route, as reported by local police. The incident occurred on the railway tracks within the jurisdiction of the Chanda police station in Sultanpur district.
The victims, identified as Rani (15) and Poonam (16), were residents of Dalit Basti in Kasaipur village. According to police reports, the girls had gone out to graze goats. After leaving their village, they ventured near the railway track, where they were fatally hit by the oncoming train.
Chanda police station’s SHO, Ravindra Singh, confirmed that the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination. Rani was a Class 9 student, while Poonam was in Class 10.
