Malda, 11th Jan.
Police in West Bengal’s Malda district on Thursday arrested two brothers for possessing spurious cough syrup.

The accused, identified as Amirul Sk (34) and Ajij Sk (27), were apprehended on Wednesday night in the Baishanbnagar police station area, which is located near the Bangladesh border. Two other individuals managed to escape during the operation.

Authorities confiscated a total of 575 bottles of the fake cough syrup.

The counterfeit product was made using phensedyl, a substance that is banned in India due to its addictive properties. However, it is consumed in large quantities in Bangladesh, where alcohol is strictly regulated.
