Udupi, 22nd Nov: Police have arrested two men for allegedly leaking sensitive information about Indian naval ships to Pakistan, raising serious concerns over national security.

The accused, identified as Rohit (29) and Santri (37) from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh, were working for M/s Shushma Marine Private Limited, a subcontractor at the Cochin Shipyard’s Malpe-Udupi unit, operating under the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

According to police, Rohit — previously employed at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kerala — is accused of illegally sharing classified data via WhatsApp, including the number of Indian Navy vessels. He allegedly continued collecting information from a friend in Kochi even after being transferred to Malpe, and passed it to another unauthorised contact.

The breach surfaced after the CEO of Udupi Cochin Shipyard lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of a case at Malpe Police Station.

Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody till December 3, while the police are probing whether more individuals are linked to the espionage operation.
