Chennai, 30th Sept: A senior leader of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Aadhav Arjuna, has been booked for a social media post urging Tamil Nadu’s “Gen Z” to emulate protests in Nepal and rise against what he called a “wicked government”.
Arjuna, the General Secretary of TVK, made the remarks on X less than 48 hours after a stampede at a Vijay rally in Karur claimed 41 lives. The timing of the comments triggered sharp criticism from the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He has been charged under U/S 192, 196(1)(b), 197(1)(d), 353(1)(b) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In the now-deleted post, Arjuna wrote: “A youth-led revolution is the only solution. ‘Gen Z’ revolted in Sri Lanka, Nepal against the ruling government. Here also the youth will lead a revolution.” He further added that under a “wicked ruler” even laws turn “wicked”, while also accusing police of assaulting citizens and arresting them for social media opinions.
DMK MP Kanimozhi slammed the post as “irresponsible”, warning that such rhetoric could incite violence.
TVK sources, however, distanced the party and Vijay from Arjuna’s comments, stressing that they reflected his personal opinion. “The party and Vijay will never instigate people or violence,” a source said, adding the post was quickly deleted.
The TVK is already under fire after the Karur stampede, with police blaming unscheduled stops by Vijay’s campaign bus and an unauthorised roadshow. The party has rejected these claims, alleging mishandling by police and power outages triggered the tragedy.
Arjuna has since moved the Madras High Court, seeking permission for Vijay to meet victims’ families and demanding that the stampede probe be handed to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The DMK has dismissed conspiracy theories, saying organisers failed to follow safety protocols.
