New Delhi, 9th Sept. Tuhin Kanta Pandey, currently serving as Secretary of the Departments of Public Enterprises (DPE) and Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) within the Finance Ministry, has been appointed as the new Finance Secretary.
Pandey’s new role was confirmed in an order issued on September 7, 2024, by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The ACC approved Pandey’s designation, recognizing his successful track record in managing key government departments.
DIPAM, under Pandey’s stewardship, is tasked with maximizing the value of central government firms and overseeing disinvestment in line with the government’s public sector enterprise policy.
Pandey is also noted for his role in the pivotal divestment of Air India to the Tata group in January 2022, a significant move that ended the national carrier’s long history of financial struggles.
The DPE, initially established during former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s tenure, is now led by Pandey, who is recognized as its longest-serving Secretary.
Additionally, recent leadership changes in the Finance Ministry include Somanathan’s appointment as Cabinet Secretary, succeeding Rajiv Gauba.
