UNITED NATIONS – US President Donald Trump on Tuesday addressed the UN high level debate in New York said that he ended 7 wars, including India and Pakistan, but this should have been the work of the UN.
Trump attacked India and China, accused them of funding Russia’s war in Ukraine. However, he also criticized NATO countries for their energy trade with Russia.
“China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil. But inexcusably, even NATO countries have not cut off much Russian energy and Russian energy products, which, as you know, I found out about two weeks ago, and I wasn’t happy. They’re funding the war against themselves,” he said.
Trump said that the US was prepared to impose a “very strong round of powerful tariffs”, called on his European allies to join his efforts in ending the Ukraine conflict by adopting similar measures.
“In the event that Russia is not ready to make a deal to end the war, then the United States is fully prepared to impose a very strong round of powerful tariffs, which would stop the bloodshed, I believe, very quickly. For those tariffs to be effective, European nations, all of you are gathered here right now, would have to join us in adopting the exact same measures,” he added.
Trump criticized the UN, stated it is “empty words, and empty words don’t solve wars.”
He said that he ended seven wars, including India and Pakistan, in a period of 7 months, something that, according to him, should have been the work of the United Nations.
“I ended seven wars… No president or prime minister, and for that matter, no other country has ever done anything close to that. I did it in just seven months. It’s never happened before. I’m very honored to have done it. It’s too bad that I had to do these things instead of the United Nations doing them,” he said.
He said that the UN did not even try to help in any of the wars he mentioned.
“I ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of each and every one of these countries, and never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help in finalizing the deal,” he said.
Trump said that all he got from the UN was an escalator that stopped right in the middle and a teleprompter that didn’t work, on a lighter note.
“All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that, on the way up, stopped right in the middle. If the First Lady wasn’t in great shape, she would have fallen, but she’s in great shape. We’re both in good shape. And then a teleprompter that didn’t work. These are the 2 things I got from the United Nations…,” he said.
Trump questioned the purpose of the United Nations if the global organization is not living up to its potential.
“They weren’t there. I thought of it really after the fact, not during these negotiations, which were not easy. That being the case, what is the purpose of the United Nations? The UN has such tremendous potential. It has such tremendous potential, but it’s not even coming close to living up to that potential, for the most part,” he added.
