WASHINGTON- According to media reports on Tuesday US President Donald J Trump and his counterpart Prime Minister of Pakistan Shabez Sharif are expected to hold a bilateral meeting on September 25 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly high level session.
Trump met with the Pakistani Army chief General Asim Munir days after Pahalgam terrorist attack and India’s military response, is likely to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later this month.
Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir will also be present during the meeting.
Pakistan floods and India-Pakistan ties are likely to be among the agenda of the meeting, media reported.
Trump had claimed he brokered a ceasefire between the neighbors using trade, even as New Delhi denied it.
The US and Pakistan had signed a trade deal in July this year.
Trump had said that the US and Pakistan would work together on developing oil reserves and Islamabad may sell that oil to New Delhi someday.
The trade deal with India faced headwinds and the negotiations were apparently stalled due to Trump’s imposition of steep tariffs on India.
The negotiations were back on track after the recent social media exchange between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
US trade delegation led by Brendan Lynch, assistant trade representative for South and Central Asia, is currently in New Delhi to hold negotiations.
