Jamui, 15th Nov. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday marked the commencement of the 150th birth anniversary year celebrations of Bhagwan Birsa Munda on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas today.

The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth approximately Rs 6,640 crore in Bihar, which include key infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of tribal communities.

In a series of symbolic gestures, PM Modi unveiled a commemorative coin and postal stamp in honor of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a revered tribal leader and freedom fighter. The Prime Minister also highlighted the commencement of a year-long celebration of Munda’s birth anniversary, emphasizing his contribution to India’s independence and tribal rights.

During his address, the Prime Minister hailed the significant role of tribal communities in shaping India’s history. “Tribal society is the one that made Prince Ram into Lord Ram and fought for centuries to protect India’s culture and independence,” said PM Modi. He underlined the contributions of tribal communities in various historical movements, including the Ulgulan and Kol Rebellions, and acknowledged the sacrifices made by leaders like Tilka Manjhi, Sidhu Kanhu, and others.

In a significant move to empower the tribal population, PM Modi announced that Birsa Munda Tribal Gaurav Upvans would be built in tribal-dominated districts across India. These initiatives aim to celebrate and preserve tribal heritage, with plans for afforestation and community development through the planting of 500,000 trees.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the government’s focus on improving the lives of tribal communities through initiatives like the PM Janman Yojana, which ensures the development of settlements for the most backward tribal groups, and the Rs 24,000 crore project for their overall welfare.

Furthermore, PM Modi stressed the importance of education, healthcare, and employment for the tribal community, pointing to the government’s efforts to set up new educational institutions, including two new tribal universities, and increase access to healthcare services, such as the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Mission.

“The Government has not only increased budget allocations for tribal welfare but also worked to protect and promote tribal heritage,” he added, highlighting the establishment of tribal museums and research centers.

In closing, PM Modi urged the citizens to draw inspiration from Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s legacy and work together to ensure that tribal values continue to guide India towards a prosperous and sustainable future. “Let’s work to preserve tribal heritage and make it the foundation for a strong and united India,” he said.
