Betul, 12th Feb.
In a shocking incident in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, tribal man Raju Uikey was subjected to a brutal assault and forced to pose as a “murga” by a group allegedly led by Chanchal Rajput, purportedly associated with Bajrang Dal. The incident, which occurred near Subhash School in the city, was captured on camera, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation.

The disturbing video shows Raju Uikey being coerced into a demeaning pose and mercilessly beaten by Chanchal Rajput and three accomplices, even as he bled profusely from the attack.

Recalling the harrowing experience, Raju, who works as a DJ, stated, “At around 11:30 pm, while I was on my way home, I was picked up near Subhash School by Chanchal Rajput and his Bajrang Dal friends. They assaulted me physically and verbally, and used casteist slurs against me.”

State Congress President Jitu Patwari brought the incident to light by sharing the video on social media, prompting swift action from the police. An FIR has been lodged against Chanchal Rajput and the three other assailants. Superintendent Of Police Siddharth Chaudhary confirmed the incident, assuring efforts to apprehend the culprits.

Expressing his outrage, Mr. Patwari underscored the dissonance between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speeches advocating tribal upliftment and the stark reality of tribal discrimination in the state. “On one hand, PM Narendra Modi’s speeches espouse the elevation and respect of tribal people. On the other hand, Bajrang Dal supporters in Betul torture tribal brother Raj Uike! This exposes the truth of BJP’s respect for tribal honor,” Patwari remarked.

Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice for Raju Uikey.
